IV Therapy Before Surgery: Pre-Surgical Hydration

Prepare for Your Procedure With Physician-Directed IV Hydration and Wellness Services

Preparing for surgery involves more than scheduling a procedure. Whether you’re undergoing cosmetic surgery, orthopedic surgery, joint replacement, or another planned medical procedure, following your surgeon’s preoperative instructions is an essential part of your care. Hydration plays an important role in normal circulation and overall health, but fasting requirements and fluid recommendations vary depending on the procedure and anesthesia plan. At Concierge IV MD, we offer premium, physician-directed IV hydration services for eligible men and women in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, Juno Beach, and surrounding Palm Beach County communities. When specifically authorized by your surgeon or anesthesia team, medically supervised IV hydration may be incorporated into your individualized pre-surgical care plan.

Why Hydration Matters Before a Surgical Procedure

Proper hydration supports normal blood circulation, electrolyte balance, and many essential functions of the body. Before surgery, however, patients may receive specific instructions regarding when to stop eating and drinking, which medications to take, and whether additional fluids are medically necessary. Certain patients may require intravenous fluids because of dehydration, medical conditions, or limitations on oral fluid intake. IV therapy delivers fluids directly into the bloodstream, but it is not routinely necessary for otherwise healthy patients preparing for surgery and has not been established as a way to guarantee better surgical outcomes. At Concierge IV MD, our approach emphasizes individualized medical screening, communication with the treating surgical team, and appropriate fluid selection. Patients should never schedule an IV infusion during a required fasting period or immediately before anesthesia without explicit approval from their surgeon or anesthesiologist.

Pre-Surgical Hydration for Cosmetic, Orthopedic, and Elective Procedures

South Florida is home to individuals seeking a wide range of elective and medically necessary procedures, including facelifts, breast surgery, liposuction, abdominoplasty, knee and hip replacement, and other orthopedic interventions. Each procedure has unique preparation requirements, and patients may have different hydration needs based on their health history, medications, kidney function, heart health, and anesthesia plan. Concierge IV MD provides convenient access to medically supervised hydration evaluations for individuals whose surgical teams have identified a clinical need for IV fluids outside the surgical facility. For patients seeking comprehensive medical support, Jupiter Internal Medicine Associates offers adult primary care and medical evaluations, while Concierge Internal Medicine Associates provides personalized concierge primary care and ongoing physician access. Patients who need medical attention in the comfort of their residence may also explore the physician house-call services available through Housecall Specialists. These services can help patients access appropriate medical care throughout their surgical planning and recovery journey.
